Making a difference

At the end of 2015, The Best You undertook a survey of its readers to ask whether they want a career in which they will leave a legacy in the world. Although 45 per cent of respondents said they hoped to, they thought it unlikely, and only 16 per cent thought they would. Being too old or lacking the skills or bravery to make a difference were cited as the most common reasons that prevented people making a difference to their life, although 34 per cent of people said they would look at getting a job in a different industry.

More than 80 per cent of The Best You’s respondents said that they believe in personal development to work on their goals to improve their happiness, reading books, attending seminars and seeking out blogs, vlogs and podcasts as sources of inspiration and coaching.

And 77 per cent of those who were surveyed said they or someone they know have suffered from depression, with 64 per cent seeing a GP for help. Therapy, talking with family and friends, reading books and attending seminars were seen as valuable sources of support in overcoming mental health problems.
